On Thanksgiving day, our American holidays officially begin. It's a complicated time, full of memories and family traditions, joyful for many, difficult for some. Those of us blessed to spend our lives with animals know where we can go for emotional sustenance, especially if we happen to have a little extra turkey to share. Our animals watch us carefully, quick to be with us the moment we get to their level, to bestow puppy kisses, deep rumbling purrs, or fuzzy nuzzles. We enjoy the love that only they can bring.
Not everyone gets to experience this special unconditional caring unless we bring it to them. Our kind and brilliant therapy animal teams visit seniors in nursing homes and assisted living centers. We are there for children who are spending their holidays in the hospital. We visit veterans who are recovering, teens in psychiatric care, women and children in shelters, and families who have just lost someone dear in hospitals. In every case, the puppy kisses, purrs, and fuzzy nuzzles bring comfort, hope, and healing.
Your gift this Giving Tuesday will help us train and support more teams for our Utah communities. Our organization is small, local, and does something no government agency would tackle. Our generous and kind teams listen to voices that are not always heard and offer friendship and a sense of community to those who often feel isolated and lonely.
