“Do you have 5 minutes to save a life?”
“Join the marrow donor registry and save a life!”
“You could be someone’s cure!”
These are some of the phrases used by Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches’ (A3M) recruiters on college campuses, festivals and wherever there is an audience of potential marrow donors. Marrow donor registration drives are the cornerstone of A3M’s activities and our call to action for ordinary people to do something quite extraordinary… to sign up to save a life!
It was at a Santa Monica church drive in 2012 when Jennifer Lee registered to be a marrow donor with A3M. Last year, Jennifer was informed that she was the most suitable match for a patient. With little thought, she went forward to donate her stem cells in hopes of saving this patient. At this year’s A3M gala, Jennifer and Mario Cases, her bone marrow recipient, were both overwhelmed with joy when they met for the first time. This inspirational meeting is a testament that donors do save lives.
This year, A3M held more than 600 marrow donor registration drives, which resulted in the recruitment of over 9,500 new donors to the Be the Match Registry. With each marrow donor registration drive, A3M hopes to find matches for more patients. As with Jennifer and Mario, miracle matches are possible but only through generous financial support for marrow donor registration drives and the kindness of marrow donors.
We hope that you can support A3M and our efforts to save lives by helping us fully equip our recruiters with the necessary supplies for their drives, such as tables, chairs, canopies, and much more, by making a monetary donation before or on #GivingTuesday, November 28th.
From all of us at A3M, thank you for your support.
