GPPD in Haiti - Rev Home
The history of the Rev Home began in 2008 in Gonaives. A large group of kids had been living with a pastor in a small town in Haiti. The children’s home was hit by a traumatizing hurricane, causing destructive flooding. The kids were stranded on a rooftop for days with no food or water. After losing everything, the pastor they were living with contacted a missionary in Port au Prince and she opened her arms to the children. Just 2 years later, the kids went through another devastating disaster. The earthquake in 2010 again took their home from them. They moved to a piece of land with the missionary until they could create better housing. These children have tenacity. They have a desire to get back up and succeed. They are fighters. Some children have been added to the home since the group from Gonaives. They each have stories of a past where we reached out with open arms in accepting them into a loving and healthy environment. In May of 2016 the home again was in search for a transition. Global Partners in Peace and Development and their Haiti Associate Amber Hasson made the decision to take full care and responsibility of the home.
This leads us to present day. There are currently 25 kids in the home. The younger kids and Amber sat down to brainstorm a name that represented the kids and the home. They came up with Rev Home. Rev in Haitian creole means Dream. Amber’s desire for the kids is to first personally know, love, and serve Jesus. Her second goal is to equip them to be what God has called them to be with no limitations. If it’s being a doctor, lawyer, mother, teacher , Amber wants to help each child pursue what God has for them . Cultivating an environment where they can dream outside of their past, to be who He has called them to be.
A lot of the kids aren't even kids anymore, they are young adults. GPPD has plans to create an environment for these young people to grow and learn responsibilities through a newly designed Transition Program. It's Amber's desire to equip these young people with the skills and abilities so they can leave the Rev Home and thrive in and for their country. Instilling in them Biblical foundations to be able to Show and Share God's love all across their country.
