LA HIGH ROMANS WITH RHYTHM!
"Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education" -- Plato
Los Angeles High School boasts many legacies, not the least of which is its Marching Band’s 25 consecutive City Championship Titles. We are fiercely proud of this accomplishment but are eager to expand our course offerings to expose our students to a broad range of music and movement through classes that include Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Percussion/Drumline, and Color Guard.
According to the College Board, on the 2012 SAT students who participated in music generally scored:
• 31 points ABOVE AVERAGE in reading
• 23 points ABOVE AVERAGE in math
• 31 points ABOVE AVERAGE in writing
It has been proven by numerous studies that students who study a musical instrument and participate in band or orchestra are more likely to:
• excel in ALL of their studies
• work better in teams
• have enhanced critical thinking skills
• stay in school
• pursue further education
• NOT abuse substances such as alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs
Despite this overwhelming knowledge music programs continue to be either completely cut or severely underfunded in public education. We are reaching out to our Roman Alumni, Families, Community and Corporate Sponsors to help us open a whole new world of opportunity and expression for the students of Rome.
Reaching our goal of $35,000 will allow us to purchase new instruments, equipment, uniforms and props so we may proudly serve Rome now and for generations to come.
