Linfield Nursing - Service Learning Sponsorship
Cross Cultural Learning with La Católica University
Health Bridges International (HBI) has partnered with Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing over the past several years. This collaboration has provided Linfield nursing students the opportunity to travel to Perú and work alongside nursing students from La Católica University of Santa Maria in Arequipa. Over the two years we have visited, 2016 and 2017, our students have learned what it is like to provide care to marginalized populations, experienced problem solving in low-resource environments, and formed lasting relationships with their Peruvian counterparts.
This October we have the exciting opportunity to bring a group of nursing students from La Católica School of Nursing to Portland – to be able to offer a unique and meaningful exchange of knowledge, skills, and experiences while continuing to cultivate a reciprocal relationship.
However, the financial burden to these students in Peru is often prohibitive. To that end, we would like to raise funds to help pay for their flight and expenses.
It costs approximately $2000 per student. In order to bring 10 students, we would hope to raise $20,000. Please consider making a donation through HBI to give these students an opportunity often only afforded to higher income countries like ours. These nursing students are going to be the change agents in providing health care in Perú.
Who is HBI? Health Bridges International (HBI) is a US (based out of Portland, Oregon) and Peruvian non-governmental, non-profit organization that works to build bridges of collaboration within extremely impoverished and marginalized communities. HBI is dedicated to sustainability and the development of projects that offer long-term change. To this end, HBI connects resources to needs through programs and projects that build local level change agents. If you have questions, please email Benjamin Grass, HBI Director of Operations: Benjamin@hbint.org.
