We are proud to announce

the 1st Annual Virtual Symposium on Prenatal-onset Group B Strep Disease (POGBSD)

to be held October 15 through October 25, 2018

Prenatal-onset group B strep disease includes GBS-caused stillbirths and miscarriages and should possibly include GBS infections caused before early-onset prevention strategies would normally be implemented. At this symposium, GBS researchers and health professionals will be presenting on various aspects of GBS disease pertaining to GBS infection during pregnancy. Key areas of the symposium theme are:

  • POGBSD and related preterm birth risk identification and management

  • Opportunities for implementing prevention strategies

  • Pathology testing and inclusion of results in surveillance data

Registration is complimentary and CME credits will be available for physicians and midwives.

Due to the virtual nature of the symposium, all you need to attend is an internet-enabled computer or mobile device. Presentations will  be in video and poster format to allow for ease of viewing across multiple time zones. As a registered attendee, you will be able to post questions and comments on each presentation to facilitate an ongoing dialogue with the presenter and other attendees.

Confirmed speakers include:

Dr. Lisa Hanson, Professor and Director of the Marquette University College of Nursing, Midwifery Program

Dr. David M. Aronoff, Director of Infectious Diseases at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

Dr. James A. McGregor, retired ObGyn professor at USC, UCLA and University of Colorado, and infectious disease specialist

The Call For Abstracts is now open through August 26, 2018. We welcome everyone with an interest in perinatal health, as your contribution is valued. Parents and family members of babies harmed by GBS are encouraged to attend, add to the discussion and also submit an abstract if they have the necessary education or medical background or can partner with someone who does.

Presentations will be grouped together by topic and uploaded periodically throughout the symposium. A link and a schedule of presentations will be sent to each registered attendee closer to the event.

Everyone is invited to participate in our tribute gallery to show their support in memory or honor of a baby harmed by GBS, a family affected by GBS, the doctors or researchers improving GBS standards, or to just show your support for your medical team or this conference. To do so, go to the main registration page, download and print out our support sign, write down a tribute or short story, take a picture holding that sign, and email it to to be included in our tribute gallery for the POGBSD Virtual Symposium.

We ask you to also consider being a sponsor for this event. All levels of participation are encouraged.

The conference start coincides with Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, a perfect time to focus on preventing GBS disease in ALL babies! We hope you will join us!

The 1st Annual Symposium on Prenatal-onset GBS Disease is a collaborative partnership between Group B Strep International and Star Legacy Foundation, both nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations working towards more babies being born healthy and staying healthy.
