The mission of Post:Ballet is to:
Collaborate, push boundaries, and take risks together with diverse artists;
Create new works that challenge social constructs and break down barriers;
Connect our community and engage them in new and meaningful ways; using
Movement as a means, not an end, to creative expression.
Hailed as a “contemporary performance powerhouse with limitless potential” (Critical Dance), Post:Ballet has been turning heads with its collaborative spirit and creative vision since its first San Francisco performances in 2010. Conceived and developed by choreographer Robert Dekkers, Post is dedicated to connecting with diverse artists to develop “cerebral, cutting-edge creations – work that never seems to tread the same ground twice” (Huffington Post).
Post has performed at Jacob's Pillow's Inside/Out Festival (Beckett, MA), Against the Grain Festival (Seattle, WA), and the SF International Arts Festival, as well as presenting full-evening summer concert series in San Francisco for seven seasons. SF Arts Monthly declared the company "decidedly daring and anything but risk averse," and SF Examiner observed “Post:Ballet is moving the form into the 21st century.”
In August of 2016, the company combined forces with The Living Earth Show, featuring guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andy Meyerson, to co-produce Post's first evening-length collaboration, 'Do Be.' This experimental, experiential production left SF Chronicle declaring: “Post:Ballet’s Dekkers proves ‘Do Be’ project worth doing… an audacious and engaging piece.”
Named “25 To Watch” by DANCE Magazine and hailed as a “mad genius” by the Huffington Post, Robert Dekkers is passionate about connecting with exceptional artists to create entirely original performance experiences for the community. The imaginative and unpredictable results sparked SF Chronicle’s David Wiegand to state: “This is a company that not only lives dangerously– it thrives on it."
Support Post:Ballet's highly anticipated eighth season today- your generosity allows us to continue furthering our mission and creating new collaborations to inspire and connect our community.
