For the past 8 years, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii has hosted 99 large scale cleanups and with the help of 22,355 volunteers, we've removed 376,728 pounds of debris from the coastlines of Hawaii. We also spend half of our time engaging students in schools and for the past three years we've reached over 30,000 students.
SCH is raising awareness well beyond Hawaii's shores because as most of us know, the majority of the debris we remove from our coastlines is actually from abroad. If all we ever do is clean beaches, that's all we'll ever do. Therefore we need to continue this outreach work utilizing our social media and speaking opportunities. Focusing on awakening the masses to the fact that pollution is the result of failed design and that we need to focus on the source.
We need continual funding to provide the integral services of coastal cleanups and educational outreach. Your participation in this fundraiser does just that. So spend the evening with us celebrating clean beaches at Koko Head Marina. The highlight of the evening will be our famous marine debris fashion show but we'll also have great food, a full bar (two free wine and beer tickets per person or all you can drink for private tables), an epic raffle, and more.
