Sean Gilbert Memorial Medical Center
In remote areas of Uganda, there is one doctor for approximately every 166,000 people. That is one doctor to deliver every baby, one doctor to see each case of Malaria, one doctor to treat common illnesses, one doctor to serve the needs of thousands of families. It is impossible. There is a need and it is growing deeper each day.
There are thousands of people surrounding One City Ministries outside of Mbale, Uganda. Currently, when someone needs medical attention they have a few options: they take a bumpy motorcycle for 30+ minutes in to town (imagine being in labor and having to make this trip), they walk – barefoot – to the nearest clinic about 20 miles away on very rough roads, or they go without. Going without medical attention costs lives more often than not. Not having access to medical care cannot be an option any longer for the people surround Light Village.
One City Ministries has been providing once-a-week medical clinics to assist the ever-growing need for medical assistance in the village. These clinics treat over 100 patients each week from early morning to early evening. Each person over the age of 18 months gets tested for HIV/AIDS - anyone who is tested positive for HIV receives nutrition counseling and is referred to the main hospital to begin ARV’s. Malaria cases are quite common and are treated with a full prescription and nutrition counseling. Wounds are bandaged, patients are prayed over and receive counseling, serious cases are immediately transported to the full-size hospital in town. Each week people are receive treatment that was not previously possible so far out in the village.
One City raised the funds, with YOUR help, to break ground on a new hospital in 2019! We have the staff in place and they will work the temporary clinic until we are able to complete the construction of the facility. The new hospital will be named the Sean Gilbert Memorial Hospital and will run 7 days a week! We will continue to provide medical services, deliver babies, and will refer people to further medical attention at the large hospital, if necessary. A hospital will mean families can save their babies when they come down with preventable diseases. A hospital will mean fewer still births and healthier mamas. A hospital will mean more education and preventative medicine. A hospital will mean life and death for thousands of people where basic healthcare has always been out of reach.
Your contribution today will go toward the equipment necessary to continue weekly medical clinics until the hospital is complete, the salaries for the trained medical staff, and overall operational costs required to offer life-saving services in the bush! We thank you for continuing to partner with One City Ministries and for saving lives in Uganda!
Thank you for your help in allowing us to continue making giant strides in ending poverty!
