A national survey found that 13% of community college students are homeless and that half are at least marginally food insecure. Twenty-two percent routinely go hungry without money to buy food. That's why this #GivingTuesday, our students are organizing food drives, and it's why we are asking you to give a gift to help us sustain the Student Emergency Fund. Together, we will make sure no Los Rios student has to go hungry this holiday season.
By giving to the Student Emergency Fund, you help students like Robert. Robert was living in his car and often couldn’t afford to eat while attending American River College full-time. But he didn't consider homelessness an emergency. It wasn't until his daughter went into labor prematurely that he applied to the Student Emergency Fund. He spent everything he had supporting his daughter and newborn grandson during their stay in the NICU. It was donors like you that made it possible for us to provide this selfless student with a deposit for a safe place to live, food on his table, and a few necessities for his grandson.
Already, District leadership, LRCCD Trustees and the Los Rios Colleges Foundation Board of Directors have given over $5,000 to create a matching pool for the Student Emergency Fund, so every dollar you give to the Student Emergency Fund will go twice as far.
Take advantage of the match by making an online donation on November 27th and "Become a Fundraiser" today, and extend the opportunity to give a gift of security to Los Rios students to your friends and family.
