Student choice comes alive with 'POTPOURRI'
Chess, tap dancing, Harry Potter, and much more!
Every Wednesday morning, Creative City is alive with excitement because of "Potpourri" - interest-based electives designed to spark everyone's unique passion. Students in Grades 2 through 5 join mixed-age groups of their choosing and deeply explore high-interest topics. Our youngest students participate as well, with students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 staying with their class and/or grade level for developmentally appropriate explorations that enrich teaching from the rest of their week.
Our nearly 20 Potpourri sessions this year include tap dancing, step, chess, Harry Potter & magical crafts, mythology, music & lyrics, Anime, etiquette, debate, fiber arts, volleyball, Spanish, cooking, and more. These sessions increase students' connectedness to school, build new relationships among students and teachers, and boost attendance. Teachers are often able to bring hidden talents, hobbies, or skills to share with their students that help deepen student-teacher relationships and reinvigorate their teaching experience as well. In its second year, Potpourri has become an important part of our school culture and one of many ways that we empower our students through choices in their school day.
Our school needs funds dedicated to this important series of programs that empower students by giving them choice. Thank you for considering a gift!
