Help Us Cross The Finish Line!
COOPERATIVA DE PRODUCCION ARTESANAL DE PIEDRA NATURAL DE HONDURAS, LIMITADA
Yes, that's what it will be called! The Microfinance Program of Honduras Good Works has been working diligently to start a tile cooperative in Honduras, a project that will create sustainable jobs in rural Honduras. That's future manager Agusto Medina standing in the near complete facility. The equipment needed to finish has left China and after clearing customs in Honduras should arrive at the site in 25-35 days.
We still need your help. The costs for shipping, taxes and customs fees have tripled over the past year as the current administration aggressively works to generate revenue for their government. We are paying, for example, 42% taxes on the equipment coming from China. All told, we anticipate paying about $7,000 in shipping, taxes and customs fees for $7,800 in tools and equipment! The electrical work is 95% completed. Plus we still need a truck for transportation and hauling supplies back and forth to the site. Its difficult to have an exact figure of what we still need because some government official or agency keeps changing the rules but we always negotiate for the lowest possible fees. At this point we believe we have raised about 75% of what we need. That means we still need somewhere between $5,000 to $10,000 to get up and running.
So many have been so generous in supporting this project.
