Santa Fe Talks
George R.R. Martin and media personality Alexis Jones are helping us raise money and awareness about service and literacy. As a school, service and teaching Citizen Scholars are central to our curriculum. On Thursday, February 7 at the Violet Crown, guests will be enjoy an uplifting one-of-kind event that tells stories of service. A cross between TED talks, poetry slams and film festivals, the event will feature 20 vignettes. Event proceeds benefit the Annual Fund at Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, and will be designated in support of service, including the 8th grade service trip to Costa Rica.
Every dollar raised will be matched by George R.R. Martin, up to $20,000, and the match will benefit the literacy work of Opportunity Santa Fe, a city-wide collective impact effort housed at the Santa Fe Community Foundation. Currently, the reading proficiency among third graders in Santa Fe is 26%.
In addition to raising money and awareness about service and literacy, the event's goal is to rally Santa Feans and see whether we can get our citizens to commit to One Million Hours of Service in 2019. During the event, people can use the hashtag #StoryofService to tell us how they will serve/which organization/group they will support and how many hours they will give in 2019.
Three Ways to Participate:
1. Make a gift or sponsor a child to be a VIP at the event at the Violet Crown. The kids are our VIPs! Children are our future and instilling the value of service is a wise investment in our future. You can choose to sponsor a young person to attend the event! It can be a child that you know or you can sponsor other children who want to attend the event.
2. Sign on as a sponsor!
3. On February 7, post on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #StoryofService and tell us how many hours of service you commit to in 2019. We will add it up with a goal of reaching ONE MILLION HOURS of service committed in 2019 by Santa Feans.
