Multidisciplinary artist Mabel Valdiviezo creates intimate and immersive experiences through film, installation, technology and dance performance to explore the intersection of identity, transnational migration, feminism, and spirituality. Currently, she is researching indigenous art practices from the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon to infuse them into her own multidisciplinary work while exploring emerging technologies such as AR and VR with the goal of blending them together into techno-shamanistic works of art and wellness.
She is currently working on a project called Metamorphosis: Phase 2. It is an immersive multimedia project that depicts the sorrow, pain, joy, and hope of the Latinx immigrant journey. In this multifaceted work, Valdiviezo mixes dance, choreography, ancestral and contemporary technology for social justice, cultural and gender healing. Phase 2 integrates women from the immigrant community onto the stage and invites them to participate in dance and art workshops, community talks and healing circles. This project aims at transforming this humanitarian crisis into a collective creative process that hints at reparation, empowerment and ongoing healing.
