The former Countryside Inn located on the Highway across from Island Transit Station in Coupeville is comprised of 2 buildings totaling 7200 sq ft on approx 7.8 acres of prairie at the entrance to Ebey’s Landing Reserve.
These buildings contain a 1400 sq ft Manager Unit, perfect for the Drop-In Center with additional transition housing options in the 4 furnished suites and 14 single and double rooms. The Motel Office in the middle front will be office space for volunteers and caseworkers. A private well provides water; 8 septic tanks handle the waste water. The grounds behind the units have patios and decks. The bulk of the acreage to the east has potential for additional income generation from crops, farm stand or well, the possibilities are endless! This will take care of the immediate need for a drop-in center large enough to accommodate more kids; there are showers and bathrooms available for use and enough space to organize The Food Pantry & Supply Closet—clothing, shoes, toiletries. In the near term the suites and the rooms on the west end can be rented for cash flow. It’s very possible Whidbey General will be able to fill them with the construction contractors.
Long range plan will utilize all spaces for Transition Housing, have Life Skills Education and on the job training experience. The July 2015 appraisal values the real estate portion for the motel parcel at 775K (the ongoing concern value as 800K). There are other comparable offers SaviBank has turned down to facilitate this transaction because they see the value this brings to our community. Let’s face it. The kids won’t care about the jet noise or the landfill and Island Transit across the street provides accessibility island wide for all children in need.
Rick Chapman and Marchele Hatchner are providing brokerage service on a pro bono basis. The seller, SaviBank is contributing 75K to Ryan’s House for Youth. Hip, hip hurray! The details-- $525,000 purchase price. With SaviBank’s generous donation and a few others we already have $103,000!!!
Help us share this amazing opportunity with those you know. Capital Fund goal--- raise the remaining $422,000 by the end of February! With major donors willing to provide matching funds we need about 2000 people willing to invest $100. This is a small price to pay to provide support and transitional housing for the at risk youth on Whidbey Island .
