La Pila Spring Project
It’s been said that when you serve, you get more than you give. There is proof of that in the smiles of our volunteers and the fact that many return every quarter. Our volunteers pay their own way to love on and serve the people of La Pila, Guatemala and feel that love returned to them multiplied.
The mission team in March has some exciting projects planned but we need your help to make them happen. We are trying to raise funds to cover the upcoming construction projects and activities for the children.
Road Pavement - $6,000
Our first priority is to pave the road leading to the primary school which will cost approximately $6,000. Many of the children experience allergies and other health issues as a result of the dirt and debris in the air. Drainage is also a concern when rain washes the dirt, including animal waste and refuse into the school and frequently tracks into into classrooms. We want our children to have a safe, healthy environment when they attend school, so they have the best opportunity to learn.
Additional Projects if we Surpass Goal:
If the funds raised surpass our goal for the road, we plan to purchase baseball equipment to start a team and begin coaching the young boys. In addition to learning a new sport, our local staff plan to take the team to the city to play against other schools. Most, if not all, have never been outside of La Pila and the surrounding villages so this will be a life-changing cultural experience for them.
Winter Hat Making
Finally, if funding allows, we plan to teach the young girls to make winter hats for themselves and their families.
When we began our work in La Pila, 100% of the children were severely malnourished, unable to concentrate in school and rapidly falling behind. Today, 80% of those children are above the growth curve and thriving. One of the boys even shared his dream of becoming a doctor himself someday.
Any individuals or companies donating $5,000 or more will receive recognition on a plaque in the village, on our partner page and via our social channels.
