Thaakat + DREAMS Pakistan, Zakaat Appeal 2019
Our schools run on your Zakaat donations, please consider a donation.
Our DREAMS schools in Karachi, Pakistan continue to grow with your help
What Life is Like for Our Students.
The villagers have built a community in the largest landfills of Karachi, Pakistan. Here is where they make their living. Every day, over 100 tons of garbage is dumped on their home turf and they must live among the burning smoke, pollutants and dangerous gasses from the waste. Many of our students work in the landfill to support their families.
But with your help we have made a difference
Since we opened our DREAMS schools in 2012, the site has faced a number of challenges, yet through your donations we have been able to expand our opportunities. We started with the opening of Campus lll a few years ago. Today we have adopted all of the below sites.
DREAMS Campus lll- 793 students
DREAMS Campus ll- 300 students
Girls only campus- Construction started
DREAMS + Al Khair intermediary college - 102 students
We need your help now more than ever
Every Ramadan you put your faith in us. Thanks to your support we have been able to expand our on site facilities tremendously in addition to adopting 2 more school sites and the intermediary college. When you commit to us, we put that investment towards our students ASAP.
How your donation changes lives
It provides clean water through an onsite filtration system that is used to provide 10,000 gallons per day
Leads, alkaline
and other dangerous chemicals are often present in ground water. We not only
built a well on site, but tested its quality. Upon testing we found that the
water was unsafe for consumption and required proper filtration. We installed a
reverse osmosis filtration unit that is cleansing 10,000 gallons a day;
however, the operating cost, electricity, and labor required to continue
providing water add about $300 every month to our expenses, coming close to
$4,000 for the full year
It provides
food for families who otherwise are uncertain where or when they might have
their next meal
Every Ramadan
we provide families in Kachra Kundi with a package of flour, sugar, oil and
rice to last them for the month. These families rely on us for these ration
packages right now in particular, as many jobs are halted in the month of
Ramadan. Those that do work are limited in hours they can be outdoors due to
heat stroke risk. Each home has an average of 15 people, and in a given day,
they will be lucky to have just one meal. This ration program helps
tremendously and we can't do it without your help.
It helps
keeps children safe and protects their right to receive an education
Every weekend our staff doubles duty as community counselors. Together, they go door to door to convince parents to send their kids to school. They continue to advise against child marriage so that young girls in the village have the chance to stand up on their own. They counsel against drugs, abuse and child labor.
It supports growth on our campus and beyond
With your
help, we have been able to expand to several other sites. That makes for 1,200 students that you are keeping dreams alive for.
It supports the future of our students
Today, more than half of our current graduating class at our DREAMS school goes onto Al Khair intermediary college. They are unable to pay for private universities. This allows them to continue to advance their education. Currently, 102 students are enrolled at the cost of $50 a month. Your donations ensure our students continue to chase their dreams. 80% of our student body is female
