This one-day conference will engage education and social service professionals in conversations about trauma, social emotional learning, and high risk behaviors.
The conference will feature special keynote speaker, Dr. Linda Rodriguez, Senior Director for School Behavioral Health at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.
Registration cost is $25 per individual. Check-in and a light breakfast begin at 8am, with the conference starting promptly at 8:30 am. Lunch will be provided.
Breakout Session Topics Include:
A Relational Approach to Working with Youth of Promise
Participants will explore a Relational Model that approaches youth as experts who's individual views of the world are the foundation of a relationship that can lead to youths acceptance of caring adults as a resource.
Trust Based Relational Intervention
Participants will receive an overview of a therapeutic model that trains caregivers to provide effective support and treatment for at-risk children. TBRI has been applied in orphanages, courts, residential treatment facilities, group homes, foster and adoptive homes, churches, and schools and used effectively with children and youth of all ages and all risk levels.
Mindfulness as a Pathway to Wellbeing
This session will provide mindfulness practices combined with suggestions for home and school use to develop inner awareness and ways to cope with stress and anxiety. Learning to use mindfulness practices enhances self-awareness and promotes a sense of self-control and well-being in our busy and often hectic lives.
What to Do After the Meltdown…Prevention, Intervention and Instructional Consequences
Participants will be able to 1. identify the stages of a melt-down 2. distinguish between a meltdown and tantrum 3. differentiate between punitive consequences and instructional consequences 4. brainstorm an instructional consequence as a result of a behavior 5. identify whether statements about autism are myths or facts 6. view practical strategies
