Canton - Cleveland 2020 Boundless Bash
We are excited to announce boundless bash 2020! Not a physical or virtual event, but several weeks of online giving to raise support for a local recipient in need.
Our boundless bash Recipient: Living with Terminal Cancer
After suffering debilitating double vision, nausea, and dizzy spells, Allan Foulkes faced a heartbreaking diagnosis in 2019: stage 4 melanoma, an incredibly rare form that originates in the brain. Now only twenty-seven years old, Allan has undergone surgery to try to remove multiple tumors; however, an apparent genetic mutation causes them to return and to spread to his spine. Allan’s condition is terminal—there is no cure.
Unable to work because of difficulty walking, hearing loss, and fatigue, Allan relies on his family for his care, including driving him to his immunotherapy infusion appointments at the Cleveland Clinic once a month as well as other appointments. Adding to the family’s stress, in February 2020 Allan’s mother, Valorie, was diagnosed with breast cancer, which required a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment. All of that didn’t stop her from working or caring for her son, who remains positive and loving throughout these hardships. Still, the family remains consumed with health and medical stress.
How can you help?
Through boundless bash, the Canton Chapter of the Foundation for Community Betterment, with the kind collaboration of the Cleveland Chapter, plans to help Allan and his family by removing some of their other pressing worries: While Allan receives disability, it doesn’t come close to covering his expenses. His car, so important for his trips to Cleveland, needs new brakes and tires for the winter; the expense of gas for those trips has also become overwhelming, as has his cell phone bill. Our hope is that we and our generous donors can relieve these day-to-day stressors so this family can focus on the bigger picture: treasuring every day they have together.
