Mushroom Walk and ID - August 22nd, 2019
Join Christin Swearingen on a journey of fungi around the Alaska
Botanical Garden. Come with questions and mushrooms from your backyard
as we dive into this underrepresented kingdom of Fungi! Christin is a
mycologist, someone who studied the Fungal Kingdom! She studied the use
of oyster mushrooms to clean up diesel for her master’s thesis at UAF.
She has degrees in Biology and Environmental Science from Oberlin
College, and has volunteered on various mycology lab projects from
amphibian chytrid at Cornell to ectomycorrhizae in Albequerque. Now she
teaches mushroom identification through Folkskills.com and partnering
with some great Anchorage nature centers and gardens!
