Dear LMSA members, Colleagues, and Friends,
We warmly welcome you to Albert Einstein College of Medicine for the 47th Annual Northeast Regional Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Conference! We are both humbled and excited to host this year’s conference and to share our vibrant and diverse community.
Our conference title “Juntos Tenemos Poder: Standing Together for Latino Healthcare,” speaks to the power of working together to recognize and address the healthcare needs of the Latinx population. As current and future health practitioners, it is important we raise our voices and advocate for our patients. We are a powerful people and our voices will be heard. This conference strives to build partnerships among medical colleagues, academic institutions, medical educators, researchers, and government officials here in the Bronx and throughout the northeast region. Our core themes of mentorship, advocacy, and community are centered on fostering the future generation of Latinx leaders in medicine.
We hope that you will all feel at home here at Einstein. As a medical institution located within the heart of the Bronx, one of our missions is to serve a broad range of patients from underserved backgrounds. Among our Bronx neighbors, over 56% are Latinx. In partnership with the Montefiore healthcare network, Einstein’s mission is to train physicians who serve Latinx and other diverse and underserved communities. The Einstein LMSA chapter has a record of amplifying the voices of those underrepresented. One unique way our institution has sought to promote inclusivity for diverse populations since its inception is by observing the Jewish Sabbath (Friday to Saturday sundown). The Einstein Office of Diversity Enhancement and Einstein LMSA upholds this commitment to inclusivity, and we want all our student population to have the ability to attend, including our Latinx students who identify as Jewish. We are excited to share the resources and facilities of our institution along with the rich, cultural diversity of the Bronx with our LMSA familia.
We look forward to connecting with everyone, to welcome more chapters, and to grow as an organization. We are stronger together. Thank you for joining us on this momentous occasion!
