Make a Meal for your Neighbors in Need
BTV Shelter is "low barrier" and provides emergency accommodations, getting our neighbors out of the cold during our cold nights. When you volunteer to provide a meal you do more than fill their bellies, you are letting them know that people in the community care about their well being. We are so grateful to you for making this gesture of compassion!
The Low Barrier Shelter will host 40 clients each night. While that seems like a lot of people to feed it's helpful to remember that simple, straightforward meals are always appreciated! Click here for some recipes that are easy and economical to make in bulk.
Make it a family tradition or bring in your work colleagues to assist. Cooking for others is a great way to bond with the special people in your life.
Don't have the time to cook? No worries! Purchasing a pre-made meal from the grocery store is equally appreciated!
Meals should be delivered by 6:00pm with dinner served between 6:30 & 7:00pm. There is an oven and a stove on-site if your meal needs to be heated. There are typically guests hanging out near the stairs while waiting for the shelter to open who will happily point you in the right direction. Meal providers are not required to stay after meal delivery, but are more than welcome to. Please do not bring any items containing poppy seeds.
The BTV Shelter is located at 179 South Winooski Avenue, Burlington. On-street parking is available on South Winooski Avenue. Parking is also available across the street in the Safe Harbor lot.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your assistance!
