On May 3rd, 2019 Jasmine and Trevor’s life with their 2 1/2 year old son Tommy, was upended with an unexpected diagnosis of cancer three and a half months into their pregnancy.
Jasmine found a lump under her armpit. Only months prior she had received “a clean bill of breast health”. Concerned, she called her doctor about the mass and by the next week he had her in for testing. Things moved quickly. Her doctor expressed concern and encouraged the young family to consider looking for a specialty cancer center experienced in treating aggressive cancers during pregnancy.
Biopsy results confirmed the family’s worst fear...breast cancer. Even more, Jasmine’s was both advanced and aggressive. Her doctor recommended treatment and further testing at the world renown MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where they have more experience than anyone else in treating late stage pregnancy related breast cancer.
So the family moved 900 miles from their home in rural Tennessee in search of hope and healing. It would be in Houston that the family would learn that Jasmine had stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. Treatment would begin immediately to provide her with her best chance of survival.
After many rounds of chemotherapy while pregnant and being closely monitored by the teams at both MD Anderson and Texas Children’s Hospital, Jasmine reached her limit. The pregnancy and cardiotoxic drugs she was receiving to save her life had put her into congestive heart failure. The only choice was to deliver baby early.
On October 4, 2019, the Wilson family welcomed Alexander “Alex” Patrick Wilson. Today, baby Alex is thriving. With a full head of platinum blond hair, he is already stealing hearts from his nurses in the hospital.
Now Jasmine prepares to resume chemo for a few more months and then is expected to proceed with surgery followed by radiation every day for six weeks. In the meantime, the costs of hospital parking, travel to and from the hospital, food, diapers, formula and childcare are growing for this family.
Please consider making a donation to Team Wilson. All proceeds from Team Wilson will be directed toward providing for the non-medical needs of Jasmine, Trevor, Tommy and baby Alex so that they can focus on one another and healing.
