Today's Future Sound Annual Fundraiser 2020
Meeting kids where they're at, on their headphones
On #GivingTuesdayNow, help Today's Future Sound survive in the time of COVID-19 to continue its mission of healing with beats.
"Music has saved my life probably multiple times, and it's more than therapeutic for me, definitely. The power of music is incredible---I appreciate what you're doing and the community...this music has been my escape to get out of my mind and exist in the moment." - #GlobalBeatCypher participant
As we continue to serve youth and communities across the globe during this uncertain time of COVID-19, we need YOUR help to continue doing so! Our goal is to sustain our youth programs and shift them online. Additionally, we need to support our teaching artists, who depend on their usual income from their now-discontinued teaching residencies, with critical teaching work to support them and serve the youth. Your donations, whatever size, can help us to do so! If you can't donate, just spreading the word helps!
Our newest online initiative, the #GlobalBeatCypher, serves music producers/beatmakers across the globe, offering them a way to combat loneliness and isolation through a supportive community, providing a platform to share their music, and facilitating the processing of their experiences and emotions through musical self-expression. We’ve pioneered the use of Hip Hop with the Therapeutic Beat Making(TBM)model to address trauma, isolation, and anxiety, and other mental health issues we face in this uncertain time. But don't take our word for it---hear it straight from the mouths of the beatmakers in our weekly #GlobalBeatCypher!'
"Every time I'm in the studio I forget what we're going through...I completely forget that side of it. Even what we're doing in the Zoom meeting...anything that brings anxiety, stress to my mind---completely gone...because of sharing all the music with each other, it's an amazing thing we're doing..."-#GlobalBeatCypher participant
Today’s Future Sounds (TFS) partners with elementary, middle, and high schools across the globe, providing in- and after-school arts programming that resonates with today’s youth, and meets them where they are - on their headphones.
Our instructors represent a diverse group of teaching artists, audio engineers, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists, professional DJ’s, computer programmers, sound designers, and music producers. By stressing small group and one-on-one instruction, our instructors provide a safe space for creativity, personal expression, and critical thinking.
The positive impact of Hip Hop music and culture goes far beyond the classroom. As a licensed psychologist who conducted his dissertation research on the therapeutic components of beat making, Dr. Elliot Gann has pioneered the Therapeutic Beat Making (TBM) model that is now serving individuals and groups in a variety of settings, including:
Mental Health Facilities
Bringing our mental health & trauma-informed methodology and pedagogy to facilities across the U.S. and internationally. Instructors receive training on trauma and mental health issues.
Juvenile Detention Centers
Providing trauma-exposed youth with an outlet to express themselves in positive ways and cope with their trauma, community violence, and other stressors. The program also builds upon Career and Technical Education (CTE) curricula, fostering media and digital literacy skills.
Working with youth as well as elders in the communities they live in with our StreetBeats program where we bring the equipment, skills and know-how to the streets and allow the spontaneity of the moment to offer up an experience to passerby. Additionally, we bring beat making to community centers and parks settings, where the general public can discover their hidden beat making and artistic talents
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to help us sustain our programming and community initiatives which use the transformative power of Hip Hop and the arts to heal and empower our youth. The process of creating and performing music is focused on the culturally relevant use of music technology and media arts, including Common Core-aligned STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and Arts) curriculum development and therapeutic/socio-emotional applications. In addition, our curriculum provides a context for world geography, digital literacy, community service, multimedia job pathways, cultural diplomacy, cross-cultural collaboration, and entrepreneurship.
We have an array of thank you gifts for different donation levels, all designed by independent artists for Today’s Future Sound. Take a look below and check out our “Beats4Lunch” collection, the classic “I wish I had this when I was a kid” design, and more! We even have an instrumental beat tape compilation with exclusive tracks from our beat making family and volunteers from around the world for the $10 donation giving level.
Every donation matters, and we cannot offer these important programs without you! Won’t you join our community in transforming the lives of youth through power of Hip Hop culture and beat making? If you can’t contribute financially, there are still ways you can support---please consider sharing our campaign on social media, telling others about TFS, and join our mailing list!
Today's Future Sound has launched its annual fundraiser! Over the past year alone, Today's Future Sound has taught beat making/music production and DJ'ing more than 15,000 youth across the globe and more than 5,000 in the San Francisco Bay Area/Oakland.
This #GivingTuesday please make a donation.
