Giving Tuesday

Because Kids Grieve, Inc.
A child’s grief is different than adult grief. According to Dr. Alan Wolfelt, of the Center for Loss & Transition, it happens more sporadically, in doses. Children will also express their feelings through creativity more often than through words.
Children grieve and re-grieve. Regardless of when a loss has occurred, children tend to revisit the grief experience at each development stage and when there are important anniversaries or special occasions.
There is no road map or time table for grief. It is a life-long process, and everyone grieves differently. Family systems, religious beliefs and personality all influence the way we choose to express grief.
Since 2007 Because Kids Grieve has been providing bereavement support for children, teens and their families in South Idaho. Over 700 children have participated in BKG day camps, overnight camps, Kids 2 Kids family evening grief groups, Summer Splash Block Parties, and Making Holiday Memories.
Over the last 3 years, Because Kids Grieve has collaborated with the Eluna Foundation in which over 190 youth, ages 6 to 17, have joined in a 3 day summer camp to laugh, play, sing, share memories, tears of sadness & loss, and join together in the bonds of mourning.
BKG is the only all-volunteer bereavement organization in South Idaho providing support for grieving youth and to journey with them in understanding their grief and assist them in healing the pain of grief.
What activities are offered?
Each BKG event focuses on a theme or aspect of the grieving process. A variety of resources and activities are utilized to help create an atmosphere where kids are encouraged, if comfortable, to share their memories and feelings.
High energy activities are combined with grief education and emotional support to help children and teens cope with loss. Events, at times, are organized into age groups to engage in developmentally appropriate activities.
Who can attend?
The events are open to children 6-17 who have experienced the death of a loved one.
What is the cost?
There is no cost to attend. BKG is a non-profit organization and is the recipient of generous grants, corporate sponsorships, and donations of interested individuals.
