Giving Tuesday
Make a difference
We're Trek to Teach. We partner with communities in mountainous Nepal and do everything we can to support the education of their children - we send volunteer teachers to their schools, deliver school supplies, and build infrastructure. Since our founding 10 years ago, we've sent over 40 teachers to Nepal, provided over 12,000 teaching hours, and improved the education of nearly 4,000 students.
But we're climbing some pretty steep hills. The literacy rate in Nepal is just 67%. Students often walk 2+ hours to school each way. Many students lack basic materials like textbooks and pencils, and parents would often prefer to keep their kids at home and in the fields to make immediate money. The education system isn't strong in Nepal, and as long as people see that, they will be hesitant to invest their futures in it. As long as they hold back from participating, the education system can't become strong.
We believe we can do a lot more. With kids, every small contribution makes a life-long and compounding difference. And in Nepal, where you can buy a restaurant meal for $2, a tiny amount of money can go along way. That's why any contribution made by generous people like you will have a huge impact. We want to raise $5,000 this year - an incredibly small amount of money, but enough for us to give writing materials and school lunches to an entire school. Those resources would allow our students to jump the poverty gap and fully participate in school. But besides the practicalities, students receiving those resources would be empowered with something else: the knowledge someone out there cares.
That's ultimately why we do what we do - we care. We know you do too.
Will you contribute a small amount to our Giving Tuesday fundraiser, or consider becoming a teacher with us in Nepal?
