Abigail Brown - South Africa
My name is Abigail, and I’m excited to spend the next 492 words or so sharing about the next step in my college journey. I’m 19-years-old and a freshman in college. Being a Colorado native, it wasn’t hard for me to decide that my college experience needed to begin here in the mountains. Every incoming freshman has the same fears, the same doubts, the same blind hopes that some day we’ll figure out where we’re meant to be. At 19, how is anyone supposed to know the answer to that question?
I’ve always been a bit of a planner. I like to know exactly what’s going on and what I’m going to do for the rest of my life, but no amount of planning or hypothesizing can change the story God has for you. This should be a comfort. Our stories have already been carefully planned, plotted, and decided. All we have to do is enjoy the ride. This becomes difficult for fierce planners like myself who seem to think that if we insist hard enough, our plans will turn into reality, and we’ll know we’re on the right track. But God doesn’t work according to our agendas, nor does He put up orange cones and traffic signs to tell us each step of the journey. The best we can do is to lean on Him, and have faith, and this is what I’m trying to do.
Recently, I’ve decided to embark on the next chapter of my story! Working alongside eight of my peers in our university teaching abroad club, I will journey to Cape Town, South Africa where I will help teach English for two weeks in May at St. Paul’s Primary School. I seek to teach and help in any way that I can, but I also seek to learn. In partnerships such as this, it is not just the students who have something to learn, but the teachers as well. I am BEYOND excited to learn and grow with these kids!
The trip in total will cost $3000 including flights, program fees, food, and transportation. I know you all thought I was done asking for help after I sent out those graduation announcements, but the funny thing about life is that you can’t make great leaps all on your own. Sooner or later we all need a little help. I’m asking you to consider helping me to reach my goal in sending me to Cape Town this May. Support of any kind goes farther than you think and means more than you know. Please keep me in your prayers these next few months as I seek to follow God’s will in my life. Thank you for taking the time to read through this! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions!
With love and gratitude,
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
