Gichbord Primary School Classroom Project
Gichbord Primary School is one of four primary schools located in Dumbeta Ward, Tanzania. Like many public schools in Tanzania it is challenged by extreme overcrowding. Gichbord has only 4 classrooms and 372 students. The second grade
classroom has 135 students and one teacher. Can you imagine teaching under these conditions? The classrooms that are in use are in poor condition. Several years ago the community in collaboration with the district government started to build a new classroom building. The community made the bricks and the government paid for cement and other materials. However, government funding ran out and the building has not been completed. When we met with Dumbeta Ward community leaders in October they told us that their number one priority for 2020 was to finish this project. They have asked for our assistance. The total budget for the project is $16,829. The government has offered to contribute $4500.
