Curtain Up: Improving our Performance Space
Help us improve our performance stage with a new curtain!
The Donald McKay School K-8 School is a Boston Public School in East Boston serving over 800 students. Our incredible students are producing our 4th annual elementary school musical. Last year, we completed our third and final year of the Disney Musicals in Schools grant with help from the Boston Children's Theater and we need your help to grow our program for the future!
We have seen our students flourish on the stage and succeed in the classroom. Being a part of a musical encourages students to support their peers, work together to accomplish a goal, and persevere through a challenge. We believe that engaging in the performing arts allows students to practice these values and become agents of change in the larger school community.
Our students have grown immensely as performers and theater technicians. We now want our performance space to match the quality of our program. To accomplish this, we have purchased a lighting system through generous grant funding, painted our stage with the help of volunteers, and expanded the physical space of the stage in order to include more students in our production. In order to complete our production space, we need to purchase a new curtain. Our curtain has been well-loved for many years and is currently torn, and it is a challenge to open and close it. This impedes our ability to have a successful production. For this reason, we are asking for your support in raising funds for a new curtain in time for our March production. With your help, our students can shine on stage in a space that reflects their talent.
