Matching Gift - Burkina Faso Fistula Clinic
Give now for a life-changing impact
The gift you make today will have a life-altering impact on vulnerable women.
Imagine being shunned by family and friends for eight years. Ten years. Or twenty-six years, like Hadja. Not because of anything you did, but simply because you live in a country where women re expected to marry when they are in their teens.
Imagine your first pregnancy resulting in hard labor that lasts for several days, eventually a stillbirth, and an obstetric fistula that causes you permanent incontinence.
"I was married at seventeen. I got pregnant and the delivery was complicated.
After three days of suffering. . . my baby was dead and the next day I started
leaking urine everywhere. The same of leaking was even more painful. . . .
I was convinced it was a curse. . . .My husband married another wife and I
remained in the family, but separated from everybody.I came to think it was
better to die rather than to live this way." - Hadja
I know you are aware of the inconceivable challenges impoverished women across the globe endure - including the loss of hope. In the United States, obstetric fistula is unheard of because women receive timely medical care. However, in developing countries like Burkina Faso, obstetric fistula (a hole caused by obstructed prolonged labor) affects millions of poor women who are treated as outcasts by their families and communities due to the stench caused by leaking urine and feces.
This preventable condition is both physically and emotionally debilitating.
To help an estimated 300 women over three years, SowHope and the Worldwide Fistula Fund (WFF) are collaborating to raise money for the holistic care of women in Burkina Faso. WFF is running a $25,000 matching campaign with SowHope. By working together, the goal is to raise $50,000 to build a dedicated clinic to provide fistula surgeries, rehabilitation, and vocational training. Help us empower fistula survivors to re-enter society with restored health and income-generating skills for long-term sustainable impact.
By joining forces with the Worldwide Fistula Fund, SowHope will raise the funds toward building, equipping, and staffing a stand-alone clinic specifically to treat women with obstetric fistula. This new clinic is necessary because our partner in Burkina Faso, Dr. Itengré, has reported that when women seek treatment for obstetric fistula in clinics that provide other medical services, they are shunned by the other patients. This behavior is not conducive to healing and rehabilitation, and actually prevents many women from seeking treatment for obstetric fistula.
Donate to SowHope now, when financial contributions will be matched to have greater impact.
When healthcare is readily available to these women, no longer will family members say:
"I would prefer her to die. Not just because she is a shame for the family, but also because all our money has gone trying to unsuccessfully find her some treatment."
With your help - and the Worldwide Fistula Fund's $25,000 matching campaign - our goal is to raise a total of $50,000 Working together, we can do more!
Imagine the positive and life-sustaining impact you will have on women and their communities when you give to SowHope.
Your generosity will provide much-needed surgery, rehabilitation, and skills training to women who have lived in the shadows for years. Please, give them a new lease on life by making a donation today when the power of your support will be matched.
Thank you for your support. We appreciate you.
