Connor Martin Hedge was born July 16, 2010 in Medway, Georgia and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer, at the age of eighteen months. His father is currently active duty military and has been stationed in several locations. Connor’s initial battle with the disease was fought at VCU hospital in Richmond, Virginia with later treatments at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Sloan Kettering in New York, Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin Texas, and Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth Texas.
Connor fought many tough battles against this disease with the strength, courage, and a bright and beautiful smile. As a baby he loved exploring the corridors of the hospital while being pulled in a wagon attached to the IV pole. He would often wave to the nurses and other patients. The husband of one of these patients credited Connor’s friendly wave to his wife as an important part of her determination to continue her battle with cancer.
Connor enjoyed playing soccer, with monster trucks, cars, dinosaurs, Nerf guns, reading his favorite books and playing with his friends and little sister Lily. He attended kindergarten at House Creek Elementary School in Copperas Cove Texas and was an honorary member of the Copperas Cove High School class of 2016.
Connor’s battle with his disease ended on July 10, 2016 and he will be remembered for his courage, positive spirit, attitude for finding the fun in life, and his beautiful smile.
