Dear Prospective Volunteer,
Did you know that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in military populations and specifically among recruits in training?
Current screening protocols at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) do not include an electrocardiogram (ECG) to check for heart health.
Our son, LCpl David Finlayson, was the picture of health when he enlisted in the Marines. He served with the 1/3 Marines as an assaultman, and he never missed his target. While on a 5-mile training run with his battalion in Hawaii, his heart went into a bad rhythm and he collapsed. Efforts to resuscitate him failed. David died on the 7th of November in 2013. He was only 25 yrs old. We still don't know exactly what caused his heart to stop. David had never had an electrocardiogram (ECG) that may have revealed some kind of electrical disorder, many of which are treatable.
Our goal is to bring better cardiac screening to the military. We would love for you to join our Lion Heart Family, and help us share our story and promote our cause.
