Emergency Relief Campaign
Due to the required social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Climb for Cancer Foundation has postponed one of our biggest fundraisers, the Hogtown 5K Beer Run, which raises $30,000 for the needs of cancer patients and their families being treated at UF Health Shands.
Even in this terrible crisis, cancer patients must still get to treatment. Postponing life-saving chemotherapy and radiation is not an option. And for many who are suffering the economic fallout of the pandemic, the cost of getting to treatment can be devastating.
The Harriet's Helping Hand Program provides such assistance to those who need it. $5 will buy a meal voucher. $20 will buy a gas card. And $50 can provide lodging assistance to cancer patients and their families who must travel long distances for treatment. Covering such expenses is difficult even in the best of times. To make matters worse for these patients, our local Ronald McDonald House and Hope Lodge have closed theirs doors during the pandemic, leaving families to make a difficult decision to forego treatment and return home.
Any assistance you can provide will help us meet the needs of the cancer patients and their families during this particularly difficult time.
