The YMCA of Greater Des Moines has established the Mission-Ready Fund to support both short-term and long-term needs of the Y. Since the Y's closure on March 17, as a result of COVID-19, we have minimized our operating expenses as much as possible. Operating costs remaining are related to continued operation of our Y Supportive Housing Campus where we house 140 residents, general occupancy costs of all Y facilities, staff costs for our leaders who develop and deliver the content for At-Home with the Y, and other essential needs to maintain the continuity of business.
We know the Y will be more important than ever once the pandemic subsides, therefore we must be ready to serve our community. Students who risk falling further behind in school.... parents who need childcare to return to work.... teens hungry for positive role models and opportunities to develop their potential.... seniors for whom social connections are vital to good health.... families looking for safe, supportive places where they can be together and heal physically, mentally and emotionally..... As life begins to return to normal, the community will once again turn to the Y for help. We must be Mission-Ready to answer the call.
Thank you for staying by our side, believing in the work of the Y, and supporting the cause of strengthening the foundations of community today and especially tomorrow!
