PZI Tuesday Meditation - Allison Atwill, Roshi
PZI Online Candlelight Meditation with Allison Atwill, Roshi
You are invited to join us for an hour of candlelight meditation. Turn off all your electric lights. Kindle as many candles as you may fancy. We will sit together in twilight, candlelight, moonlight.
Last autumn I began an occasional evening meditation ritual. Every light in the house was switched off - even covering the coffee roaster’s PWR/START button. An impromptu altar was assembled in minutes - flowers in a blue vase, votives, incense. A few candles were scattered strategically about the house, one on the deck provided light for outdoor walking meditation. A bell. Zazen. Kinhin. Zazen. That’s it.
Discoveries were made. I found the house itself mediated - each object silent, dignified, related. Night poured through the windows. The trees leaned in, moving in moonlight or starlight. Owls called.
Together we will regard the midsummer evening by candlelight, moonlight, starlight. --- Allison
