Christine Germain/ STEM uses somatics as a practice/process of inquiry in order to heighten social and environmental awareness through original works of dance and physical theatre. Our performance actions are denunciations, manifestoes, political statements and questions. A common theme running through the company's works is “otherness” and the ways we deal with the foreign, the unfamiliar, and how the novel yields particular consequences. Awards include a CA$H grant, Outstanding Choreographer Award by BayAreaDanceWatch, UC Davis Humanities Graduate Research Award, and “Most promising choreography award” at the Montreal Fringe Festival in 2012.
