Computer Training Centers for Casa Girasoles Boys
Improving Knowledge and Expanding Capacity Project
Your donation will help to develop and implement two computer training centers for formerly homeless and abandoned children living in the HBI Casa Girasoles Program. This is an immediate need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country of Peru is on lockdown, schools are closed and educational opportunities have been moved online. Without computers, updated software and modern teaching technology, the boys in our homes - boys ranging in age from 4 to 18 - are at risk of further academic setback in their lives.
Continuous learning and acquiring new skills are a key aspect to success in the modern economy. So much of learning now takes place through web-based and virtual platforms. However, growing up deeply entrenched in the experience of poverty, receiving sub-standard classroom education, and having limited access to computing technology and the internet makes it very challenging for formerly homeless and abandoned children to find lifelong pathways into learning. That is why we are proposing the Improving Knowledge and Expanding Capacity Project. The project will help youth living in two homes for formerly homeless and abandoned children gain meaningful access to the internet and advancing learning technology. This project will help us to build a home-schooling model that will meet the needs of the boys in our care for the immediate response to COVID-19 and the global pandemic and the long-term mission of preparing the children in our care for lives of success.
