Botanical Drawing at Alaska Botanical Garden
Draw Plants While Surrounded by Plants!
Join Ayse Gilbert along with ABG staff for an in-depth look at botanical drawing. Learn how to draw plants using the gardens and surrounding Boreal forest as inspiration. This course welcomes all levels, beginner and advanced. Each morning will start with "classroom" time, learning about tools, techniques, and conventions of traditional botanical illustration. We'll highlight specific plants each day and teach a mini natural history lesson to give you a sense of not only how to draw the plant but interesting facts about their life cycle. Afternoons will be spent out in the gardens drawing specific plants that interest you, with Ayse available for advice and information.
This course will take place over three Saturdays, August 1st, 8th and 15th from 9:30am-4:30pm (no single day registrations). All instruction will take place in our tent covered outdoor classroom. Registration is limited to ensure small class size and adequate space for social distancing; preregistration is required. Participants are encouraged to wear cloth face coverings during "classroom" instruction time. All materials are included in the class fee (sketchbook, colored pencils, graphite, eraser, sharpener, ruler and extra paper. You may bring some of your own supplies with you if you prefer. Coffee and tea will be provided, bring your own mug and any snacks or lunch.
