SFDanceworks was founded in 2014 by James Sofranko, known as a soloist dancer with the San Francisco Ballet, as well as the co-founder of Dance For A Reason (DanceFAR).  SFDanceworks is dedicated to the past, present, and future of dance as an art form through high quality live performance, featuring the choreography of dance masters and current established artists, as well as emerging talent. SFDanceworks is a repertory company and strives to cultivate new artists and present commissioned work on a regular basis.

The first three home seasons have included works by Nacho Duato, Lar Lubovitch, Alejandro Cerrudo, José Limón, Christopher Bruce, Penny Saunders, James Graham, James Sofranko, Danielle Rowe, and Dana Genshaft.
