Take your Bharatanatyam to the next level with a customized two-week intensive with, Co-founder of Navatman, Sahasra Sambamoorthi. This intensive workshop explores the fundamental techniques of Bharatanatyam through three key modules: Musculature, Rhythms, and Adavu Variations.
Mix and match the below modules to suit your needs and schedule. Choose to attend a full day or 90 minutes within each day.
Serious dancers are recommended to take the full two weeks to hone your bharatanatyam skills.
Summer Intensive Modules:
Strengthening and Musculature module: Understand your muscles and perfect your technique by learning how to strengthen and stretch the core muscle areas needed in Bharatanatyam.
Rhythmic Module: Gain a deeper understanding of taalam by deep diving into different nadais (Chatushram, Tisram, Kandam, etc.) and honing your advaus.
Adavu Variation Module: Combine the strengthening and rhythmic modules together in a focused technique-approach to perfecting your basic adavus. This module will help you form the right habits and enhance your ability to identify and use the right muscles and movements in dance.
About the Artist:
Sahasra Sambamoorthi’s initial training began under Smt Kalaimamani Ramya Ramnarayan in Bharatanatyam and now continues in Kathak with Prashant Shah and Odissi with BIjayini Satpathy and Nrityagram. A practitioner of the form for 25+ years, and a teacher of dance for 17 years, she has spent the last 10 years devoting her time to new body movements within the traditional adavu structure that allows for variations of rhythm and technique that both challenge the body and increase fluidity.
