COVID Relief Emergency Food Fund
Emergency food and resources to underserved communities in Alto Cayma
COVID-19 has had big implications all over the world. This is especially true in Perú, where over 70% of the population works in the informal sector. The Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra declared a national state of emergency on March 15, and the country closed their borders. This led to an almost martial law, where leaving the house except for accessing essential goods or performing essential work was not permitted. Pushing the country into a lockdown has had tremendous implications and impact. Staying home for long periods of time is impossible for many Peruvians who live on less than $100 per month. In the country, only 44% of households have access to a refrigerator. This means that many families need to leave the house every day to regularly access the food they need to survive.
You can help - we are working with Father Alex Busuttil and the NGO Vida y Compassion to bring emergency food and resources to underserved communities in Alto Cayma, Arequipa. We are also working with our Ines Project team to support the 50+ families enrolled in the program to gain access to food, medications, and supplies to help them better care for the complex needs of a child living with a disability.
