Raks Africa / Girls Raks Bellydance and Body Image

A fiscally sponsored project of Dancers' Group

Girls Raks Bellydance and Body Image Program is a project of Raks Africa, the award-winning Oakland-based bellydance duo. Through bellydance they created spaces where young women devise moving storyboards about their lives and their bodies. Their work allows them to engage in a special dialogue with audiences about women’s rights, racial justice and many other issues. They co-direct Girls Raks Bellydance and Body Image Program, a project that provides young women ages 13-21 a body-positive experience free from judgment and competition, as well as tools to resist negative media images.
