Every musical composition, much like a story, has a central theme, a beginning and a conclusion. Rhythmic compositions are no different.
In this exploratory class for percussionists and dancers, begin to understand techniques that will allow you to add character and layers of complexity in your solos and jathis with Kavi Srinivasaragavan. Understand the concept of a motif in rhythmic ideas and how to use the motif to slowly build a comprehensive rhythmic composition.
Mridangists who know Adi, Rupakam, Khanda chapu and Misra Chapu
Dancers who can speak jathis well
Any percussionist or drummer
Who this is for:
Mridangists and percussionists looking to learn how to create unique and interesting patterns while playing and during their solos. Dancers looking to add creativity and complexity to their jathi creations
What you will get out of it:
Understanding how to build character and tell a story through rhythm. Dancers will be able to incorporate creativity and rhythmic feel into jathi creation and into their own dance
For each Nuance class we provide a few scholarship slots for those who cannot afford to take the class at the full rate. These are the "Pay what you can" registration tickets. We ask that if you are able to pay the full amount, please do, as it will allow those who have less to take the class at the reduced rate. Additionally if you are able to donate above the full rate through the Donate to Pay What You Can option before checkout, it will enable us to open up more scholarship slots for the class. Fifty percent of what you pay goes to the artist.
