Bridges of support for former Casa Girasoles boys
We've been contacted by a number of former Girasoles facing challenges due to COVID and realized that there is a need for a more structured program that works with the Girasoles as they age out of the homes. To that end we have created the Tigres program which uses peer mentors to help identify resources and build bridges into opportunities.
Your contribution will help us to expand our support and advocacy for former Casa Girasoles boys as they transition to independence.
Continuous learning and acquiring new skills are a key aspect to
success in the modern economy. So much of learning now takes place
through web-based and virtual platforms. However, growing up deeply
entrenched in the experience of poverty, receiving sub-standard
classroom education, and having limited access to computing
technology and the internet makes it very challenging for formerly
homeless and abandoned children to find lifelong pathways into
learning. That is why we are proposing the
Improving Knowledge and
Expanding Capacity Project
. The project will help youth living in two
homes for formerly homeless and abandoned children gain meaningful
access to the internet and advancing learning technology. This project
will help us to build a home-schooling model that will meet the needs
of the boys in our care for the immediate response to COVID-19 and the
global pandemic and the long-term mission of preparing the children in
our care for lives of success.
