Support our Community
The Seventh Wave's 2021 Fundraiser
The Seventh Wave has always been buoyed by the generosity of its community. Whether it be the care with which our editors handle each contributor’s piece or the time readers spend sinking into each issue, the cornerstone of our organization has always been growing and building together. When we first began six years ago, one of our founding principles was that we pay every person that we publish and every person that we work with. We pushed for this not because we believe monetary compensation is the main reason any artist does the work, but because we want to help recalibrate the public’s perception of the value of art.
Since 2015, we’ve expanded our programming and offerings, and with that, our expenses have increased, too. We now publish 32 new voices each year, including two featured artists; host two bi-coastal residencies in Rhinebeck, NY, and on Bainbridge Island, WA; hold space for writers, artists, and performers through both virtual and in-person events; and regularly work with 14 incredible staff members who dedicate their time and energy to help bolster other writers and artists.
As we launch into our seventh year, we’re asking you to join us. Help us continue the necessary conversations that we began six years ago, about the importance of art in the space of social issues. About connecting across borders and boundaries and labels of identity. About how to best create a platform for marginalized voices to speak their truths loudly and without filter. Stories, words, and art matter more than ever, and we hope you will join us as we continue to grow our community, together.
