Shukuru Cottage

The Perfect Remedy for Pandemic Fatigue

Covid-19 has forced many of us to cancel our travel and vacation plans.  We have been stuck inside our homes for way too long, looking at the same walls, and with nowhere to go.  A few days spent rejuvenating in a scenic and peaceful place is just what we recommend if you’re looking to combat pandemic fatigue. We hope that you will come spend a few days relaxing in Shukuru Cottage.

Shukuru means gratitude in Swahili. We named our Mt. Hood cabin, Shukuru Cottage because of the gratitude we feel for the abundant blessings in our lives including the privilege of living in such a beautiful place.   We are also grateful to you, our donors. Without your generosity the Rafiki Village Project would not be possible.   As a thank you for your generosity, we are making Shukuru Cottage available to you.

Shukuru Cottage is in a beautiful forest setting near the village of Rhododendron, just 45 miles east of Portland.  It is surrounded by towering conifers and mountain streams.  During the day, hike the many nearby trails, downhill or cross-country ski spectacular Mt. Hood, fly- fish for steelhead in pristine mountain streams, swim or kayak in nearby lakes, play a round of golf at Three Nines Golf Course, take the family to Mt. Hood Adventure Park and brave the infamous Alpine Slide, or simply relax and do nothing in a beautiful setting.  In the evening, eat dinner out on the deck, relax with a glass of wine, read that novel you’ve been meaning to get to, or play a game by the fire.  At night, fall into a deep and restful sleep listening to the hypnotic sounds of Zigzag and Still Creeks.

The cabin has a living room with a river rock fireplace, a full kitchen with modern appliances, a bedroom on the first floor with a queen bed and fireplace, a loft above the living room with two double beds, a back second floor bedroom with 2 double beds, and a bathroom on the first floor with a shower.   The living room has a fold out double futon.  Therefore there are six beds in four rooms.  The basement contains a washer and a dryer.

At same time you are enjoying your stay know that 100% of your donation will be going to support the work of the Rafiki Village Project.  We have multiple projects either currently underway or planned for the future.  Your donation will help see these projects come to fruition.  Remember Rafiki means friend.  For more information about our mission and projects please visit: www.rafikivillageproject.org
