the past decade of teaching and performances at Visionbox, one of the
most interesting ongoing discoveries has been the response of audience
members watching us work on material as part of a performance. After
performing scenes or pieces of whole plays we have rehearsed in class
sequences, we decided to give notes and direct material in front of
the audience. We have been told over and over that watching that part of
our process was almost more entertaining or intriguing than the
performances themselves. We refer to this as the study of technique and
an attention to the process over product.
Our play for October 15th is “Three Sisters”, by Anton Chekhov.
