A KidsPlay success story for @GivingTuesday.
In 2015, a mom reached out to The Community Foundation of Orange, KidsPlay™ program, a unique program designed to help at-risk youth participate in healthy activities such as sports, art and music, to ask for help for her three sons. They had shown interest in playing soccer and she wanted to give them that opportunity, however she knew she could not afford it on her own. The high cost of registration and equipment was out of their budget. She needed to find a way for them to learn from strong mentors as they were a lower-income family, living in a gang-prone neighborhood. The Community Foundation of Orange stepped in to get the boys registered for the local soccer league, and through the years, provided additional assistance to keep them engaged.
Today, the two older boys have both graduated from El Modena High School, and have joined the Marine Corps. The younger son is doing well as a junior at El Modena High and also has aspirations to serve in our military. As part of our Field of Valor event, a tribute paying honor to our nation's military, both currently active young men were represented on the Field with thanks for their commitment to serve our great nation. They learned the value of giving back, having received help when it was most needed. Now, they are giving back to not only their country, but their community as well.
The Community Foundation of Orange is proud to know this family, and to have seen first- hand what a difference our KidsPlay™ program is making with local families. Thank you for your continued support. Your donations make this, and so many more success stories, possible.
