Now More Than Ever
An online celebration of hope, humanity, and the power of community

Dear Friends of Crossing Thresholds, We need you now more than ever. In the past year, your support has gone from enriching lives to literally saving lives. 2020 has been full of uncertainty and fear for our students in the Kibera Slum of Kenya. When their schools were forced to close in March, our students lost their access to vital nutrition. Simultaneously, widespread unemployment left many students’ families without means to purchase food. Crossing Thresholds was able to pivot from educating and feeding over 1,200 children in Kibera to feeding the families of these children. With your swift and generous support, Crossing Thresholds transformed our four primary schools into Food Banks that have distributed food supplies to more than 1,200 school families over the past six months. Additionally, we purchased printers/copiers to generate take-home assignments for our students. We know extended breaks impede learning, but imagine what an entire year lost would do! From our hearts to yours, we say THANK YOU. Since we cannot gather together this fall, we’re gathering virtually and we appeal to your sense of shared humanity once again. Our work begins with saving lives, and continues with creating opportunities. Together, we can lift over 1,200 students out of poverty by forging pathways to achieve their educational, career and life goals. When Kenyan schools reopen in January, our first commitment (with a generous grant from Microsoft) will be to bring internet access and IT infrastructure to our schools, allowing our staff to teach more effectively, online and in person, and place our students on a level playing field with their Kenyan peers. Our second goal will be to build another school in Kibera to aid the 10,000+ children who still lack access to learning and nutrition. We are excited to move forward. With your continued support, we can nourish the bodies and minds of over 1,200 Kibera students as they journey towards productive Kenyan citizenship. Our fundraising goal of $250,000 is within reach, but can’t happen without you. Please consider donating on this page and be sure to join us for our Virtual Campaign Celebration on Thursday, November 12 at 6pm to hear a special message from our friend and partner, Wanjira Mathai and see firsthand the many students, families and teachers we’ve supported. With gratitude, Carter Via Founder and Executive Director |
