iPads for Seniors
Defeating Social Isolation
"Isolation and loneliness are associated with a 50 percent increased risk of developing dementia, a 32 percent increased risk of stroke, and a nearly fourfold increased risk of death among heart failure patients, according to separate studies." AARP / September 2020
Social isolation is a challange in long-term care facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only underscored the dire nature of this issue, but also exacerbated it as most nursing homes and long-term care residences by necessity have shut their doors to visitors.
Aging Together is confronting the threat of social isolation by distributing iPads so residents can "see" and speak with their loved ones face to face. Additionally they can connect with doctors, and take care of personal business - such as closing on a home sale as one resident was recently was able to do. And boredom is relieved by playing games, watching movies or getting involved in online creative activities.
Please consider helping Aging Together find the funds to continue this campaign as the numbers of older adults requiring long-term care residency is growing. The average cost of one iPad is $400. No amount is too small as we strive to make this huge difference in the well-being of older adults in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties.
Thank you!
"The donation of the iPads to our Senior Living facility has truly been a blessing. We appreciate your generosity so much.
It has given our residents the opportunity to connect with their families and friends during these trying times.
To see the excitement in their eyes when they see their faces and hear their voices bring tears to my eyes."
